Darren Griffiths aka Red Greg is a veteran of the London scene ever since his first blues parties in the 80s. Growing an impressive collection of Rare Groove, Disco and more worldwide gems, no wonder he's regarded the best active disco DJ of the moment by the likes of Floating Points, Motor City Drum Ensemble or Rahaan. Combining perfect technique with an amazing collection of one dollar records and rarities, his respected for hidden gems through 1970s-80s make him a highly esteemed selector.
Primarily known for his Disco collection and expertise, it isn't just one dimensional. Darren's sets in the earlier years spanned house, hip-hop, steppers, reggae, acid, jazz funk, street soul, funk, boogie, techno, disco to the odd bit of pop and something he wants to incorporate into special sets. Through recent years, he's focused on finding more 1970s disco-boogie and early 1980s modern funk and gospel records. Darren's humble approach to discovering records, preparing compilations and the like is admirable, especially his ability to make b-side rarities sound like top 10 singles.
Many may know of Red Greg through his close connection with Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points and the "You're A Melody" parties at London's well-loved venue Plastic People. This organically led to collaborating with Melodies International and releasing edits like the sought after edit 'Disco Baby' by Y. Gershovsky, supporting the label's reissues and many b2bs with Floating Points.
